The Highlights: Κnossos Palace & city walk (from Heraklion), approx. 3 hours

The capital of King Minos and the center of the magnificent Minoan civilization is located 5kms away from Heraklion. A visit that is taking a step back in time and some 4000 years, 2000 BC. Knossos Palace, famous throughout the world through the myths of Europa, the Minotaur, Daedalus and Icarus, opens a window to the most ancient civilization of Europe. The Archaeological Museum is one of the largest and most important museums in Greece, and most important of Europe. It houses representative artifacts from all the periods of Cretan prehistory and history, covering a chronological span of over 5,500 years from the Neolithic period to Roman times. Right after visitors walk around the city to see the Venetian buildings and castle, the impressive Cathedral, the fountains and the open street market.

Heraklion City walk & Local treat (from Heraklion), approx 3 hours:

Our walking tour starts with a visit to the beautiful city of Heraklion. Heraklion is the largest city and the administrative capital of the island of Crete. It is one of the largest cities in Greece. The Venetians improved on the ditch of the city by building enormous fortifications, most of which are still in place, including a giant wall, in places up to 40 m thick, with 7 bastions, and a fortress of Koule Chandax was renamed Candia and became the seat of the Duke of Candia, and the Venetian administrative district of Crete became known as “regno di Candia”. Main sightseeing’s of the tour: open-air market, the the Venetian Loggia, and the Cathedral of St Minas or the Church of St. Titus and the 25th August street which links the port, the Marina and the Castle of Koules with the heart of the city and a main open-air market. We end up in Lion’s square where we taste bougatsa cheese pie along and Greek coffee.

Cretan Folklore party (from Heraklion), approx. 4 hours

Early in the evening under a star studded sky in an open-air tavern surrounded by the scent of jasmine and the melodies of “LYRA” and “BOUZOUKI” at the village you will have the opportunity to take a glimpse of the rural life in a Cretan village by walking around this charming place. After tasting the traditional local dishes and enjoying the fine wine, you will witness the grace of the Cretan dancers performing a big variety of Cretan, Greek and folklore dances, dressed in their traditional costumes. Join them, to learn how to dance yourselves and, following their footsteps, become “ZORBAS” for a night. A perfect chance to enjoy yourselves “Cretan Style”, taste traditional dishes, know a bit more about your hosts and keep this wonderful night in your memory forever.
