Day 1: Arrival at Thessaloniki 

Arrival in Thessaloniki airport, pick up / depending on the time of the arrival drive to Kalochori Lagoon, overnight in Thessaloniki. Kalochori Lagoon, part of the Axios Delta National Park near Thessaloniki, is a vital wetland hosting nearly 300 bird species, famous for wintering Greater Flamingos, Dalmatian Pelicans, diverse ducks, and waders like Avocets and Black-winged Stilts, plus raptors like the white-taled eagle offering excellentTrikala birdwatching year-round, especially for migrants and rare visitors.

Day 2: Nestos National Park – Lake Vistonida – Porto Lagos – Xanthi

After breakfast, depart towards the Nestos National Park, focusing on the impressive wetlands of Lake Vistonida and Porto Lagos. This biodiverse ecosystem hosts more than 260 bird species and is internationally recognized as an important habitat for both migratory and resident birds.

Spend the day exploring the lagoons, reedbeds and salt pans where Greater Flamingos, Dalmatian & Great White Pelicans, herons, cormorants, and numerous ducks and waders can be observed throughout the year. In winter, large concentrations of flamingos and waterfowl create unforgettable wildlife scenes, while sightings of rare raptors such as the White-tailed Eagle make this area truly special for birdwatchers.

Later, enjoy a visit to the charming old town of Xanthi, famous for its multicultural heritage, neoclassical mansions and lively atmosphere. Overnight in Xanthi, or alternatively in a cozy guesthouse surrounded by nature in the Porto Lagos area.

Enjoy a guided boat tour through the delta’s maze of lagoons, channels and mudflats, offering close encounters with impressive birdlife. The area is world-renowned for its huge wintering flocks of geese (including the rare Lesser White-fronted and Red-breasted Goose) and Bewick’s Swans, while flamingos, Dalmatian & Great White Pelicans, Spoonbills, and Glossy Ibis are seen regularly throughout the year.
