Athens, the historical capital of Europe. Welcome to the birthplace of democracy, arts, science and philosophy of western civilization. Home of Plato, Socrates, Pericles, Euripides, Sophocles, Aeschylus. Athens is one of the world’s oldest cities. It’s recorded history spanning around 3.400 years and it is being inhabited since the 11th millennium B.C. E. Today, under the shadow of Parthenon, the contemporary urban scenery of the sprawling city reflects its exciting history, its multi- cultural modern personality as well as the infrastructure and facilities. The perfect Mediterranean climate with the legendary Greek sunlight, the unique combination of glorious history with modern, urban innovation, the coexistence of great culture with astonishing natural beauty, the high standard hotel accommodation, modern means of transportation such as the cutting-edge modern metro, the vibrant rhythm of life, the wide choice of opportunities for shopping, dining and night life and of course the warmth of the Athenians people feature Athens as the ideal all year-round city break destination. The city of Parthenon is an open-air museum. A large part of the town’s historic center has been converted into a 3 km pedestrian zone, one of the largest in Europe. It leads to the major archaeological sites (“archaeological park”), reconstructing – to a large degree – the ancient landscape.
Although it is relatively untouched by international tourists, Nafpaktos is a town well-known to the Greeks. Having a Medieval charm and a fairytale vibe, Nafpaktos Greece never fails to charm visitors. Its small Venetian port, laid-back beaches, and lush green landscape make Nafpaktos a beautiful destination to visit! The picturesque Nafpaktos port is arguably the trademark of this little town. Apart from the colorful boats that moor there during the summer, at Nafpaktos port, you’ll also see a statue of Cervantes, who lost his arm in a naval fight close to Nafpaktos during the Medieval times. From the port of Nafpaktos starts a beautiful long beach that stretches for many meters and is the perfect option for a plunge near town.
Epidaurus is one of the most popular archaeological sites in Greece. Located on the northeastern side of Peloponnese, in the region of Argolis, Epidaurus Greece is mostly famous for its Ancient Theatre. This theatre was constructed in the late 4th century BC to host religious ceremonial events in honor of god Asclepius, whose healing center was located a few steps away. Famous for its symmetry and incredible acoustics, this classical theatre is surrounded by lush greenery and gives a nice view of the valley below. In summer, it hosts performances of ancient Greek drama.
One of the most beautiful towns in the area of Argolis (in eastern Peloponnese) as well as one of the most romantic cities all over Greece, Nafplio was the first capital of the newly born Greek state between 1823 and 1834. According to mythology, the town was founded by Nafplios, the son of god Poseidon and the daughter of Danaus (Danaida) Anymone. The town’s history traces back to the prehistoric era when soldiers from here participated in the Argonautic expedition and the Trojan War alike. The town declined during the Roman times and flourished again during the Byzantine times. Frankish, Venetian and Turkish conquerors left their mark in the town and strongly influenced its culture, architecture and traditions during the centuries. Ancient walls, medieval castles, monuments and statues, Ottoman fountains and Venetian or neoclassical buildings mesmerize the visitor with their unique architecture and beauty.
Preveza town is located at the mouth of Amvrakikos Gulf, in Western Greece. It is an area blessed with beautiful landscapes, green areas, great beaches, a rich history, ancient sites and monuments; in short you will find here numerous options for memorable holidays. Stroll along the harbor and the old town and see the beautiful traditional buildings; walk on the seaside pedestrian street and enjoy the island-like atmosphere; taste local dishes in a picturesque taverna or coffee shop which line the narrow slab-paved backstreets. Present day Preveza was built on the site of ancient Vereniki town, which was founded by Pyrrhus, the Greek King of Epirus in 290 BC. Preveza was built during the late 11th c., after ancient Nikopolis town was deserted. It was conquered many times across the centuries, until it became part of Greece in 1912.
Among the steep slopes of Mt. Mainalo in the Peloponnese nestles the mountain village of Dimitsana. Get a deeper insight into Greek history by visiting the places where the Greek Revolution of 1821 against the Ottoman occupation actually began; a place synonymous with legendary heroes, fierce battles and glorious achievements. Today thanks to its proximity to Athens and its striking beauty Dimitsana is one of the most popular all year-round destinations in Greece along with the nearby Stemnitsa and Vytina, in the heart of Arcadia.
Dimitsana is built like an amphitheatre overlooking Lousios River, Lousios valley and the plains of Megalopoli. The village is nicely surrounded by snow covered mountain tops and lush pine tree forests. Some of its most famous sights are the six remaining legendary Gunpowder Mills that used to produce gunpowder for the Revolutionary War, the Philosophou and Timiou Prodromou Monasteries; the archaeological site of Gortyna and the houses of heroes of the Revolution.
The region of Zagori has 46 traditional villages perched on the dense green mountainsides. All villages have a traditional architecture with stone houses, paved paths, and roofs with grey tiles. Most tourist villages are Papigo, Monodendri and Aristi.
Huge vertical rocks. Sculptures created by prehistoric rivers, with famous monasteries perched on them! The view of the towering dark rocks is awe-inspiring. Nestled on the tops and in their caves from the 11th century, are the monasteries of Meteora. With ropes, nets or with their bare hands, the monks established a centuries-old tradition: climbing.
