Experience a different side of Greece with this 7-day trip to Thessaloniki, the second biggest city of Greece, and to Volos and the majestic Pelion Villages.
Upon arrival at the airport of Thessaloniki, “Macedonia”, meet with your guide and get ready to explore the city! Coach transfer in the city center for our walking tour, which will give you the opportunity to get acquainted with Thessaloniki’s fascinating history, starting with the White Tower. Stop at the Galerian complex in Navarinou Square, the Arch of Galeriuc, the Rotunda, the chirch of Aghios Dimitrios, the Roman Forum and Panagia Chalkeon. Continue with Aristotelous Street and enjoy a coffee with a view of the domes of the Bey Hamam bath-house. We will the take the bus to continue for a visit at the “Ano Poli” of Thessaloniki, where we will get to see the magnificent view of the entire city. Time for lunch. On the north part of the city lies the Upper or Old Town, Ano Poli, the only part of the city that survived the big fire of 1917. Afterwards, transfer to hotel and check in. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight.
Breakfast at hotel, meet with your guide for your visit to the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, which is housed in a 1962 edifice, designed by architect Patroclos Karantinos. The Museum’s collections include distinctive works of art and excavation find from across Macedonia, as the archaeological service was the first state service to operate in Thessaloniki immediately after the liberation of the city.
Visit in the buzzing, colorful markets of Thessaloniki, such as Athonos, Kapani and Modiano. There, we will meet the people of the market and taste excellent products, such as quality cheese and sausages, honey, halva, Turkish delights, fresh fruit, homemade pies and more! The walk ends at Yahudi Hamam in the Louloudadika area.
Then continue with your guide for getting to the Ladadika area in order to have lunch in order to taste to the local food and drinks. Return to your hotel. Time to relax. In the evening meet with our expert assistant and get ready for the night life vibes! Start the night by going to a place in which you learn how to make an authentic Greek cocktail under the tutelage of a professional bartender. Share stories with locals and other travelers in a fun, casual atmosphere while getting an authentic taste of local culture. Return to hotel. Overnight in Thessaloniki.
Breakfast a hotel, check out and meet with your tour leader to depart for Volos. As we reach our destination, we will have a guided visit of Sesklo and Dimini the prehistoric settlements in Thessaly. They are the most systematically excavated Neolithics sites in Thessaly. Artifacts such as figurines, jewelry and pottery where found in the ancient ruins located in the area. Arrival in Volos and have a guided visit at the Athanasakio Archaelogogical Museum. Afterwards, check in at our hotel in Volos. We will then enjoy a walk in the beach, one of the most beautiful strolls in Greece. Hospitable Volos welcomes you like a proper host with tsipouro (schnapps-like firewater) and meze! It’s a culinary institution that dates back to the 1930s. Return to our hotel. Time to relax. Dinner at hotel and overnight in Volos.
Breakfast at hotel and get ready to explore some of the traditional villages of Pelion! First stop will be at Zagora village with the famous 18th century library. Then continue with our visit to Tsafrada, time for walking and enjoy your coffee at one of the many traditional cafes of the square in which one of the oldest Plane trees in Greece is located! Return to our hotel and dinner. Overnight in Volos.
Breakfast at hotel, transfer to Ano Lechonia village to take the train to Milies village with “The Little train of Pelion”. This historical train that used to operate the whole route between Volos and Milies is literally running on the tracks of history. Construction began in 1892 and in 1896 the first part of the line had been delivered. The rest of the line up to Milies wouldn’t be complete until 1903. The chief engineer of the project was Evaristo De Chirico, father to the well know painter and sculptor Giorgio De Chirico, who was born in Volos. The little train of Pelion crosses the mythical routes of the Centaurs and the Dodecatheon as, according to the Ancient Greek Mythology, Pelion was the summer habitat of the twelve gods of Olympus. Optional lunch at Milies village and free time. Return at hotel and dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Volos.
Breakfast at hotel, transfer to the well-known village of Makrinitsa, we will have the opportunity to walk to the central square, see the little chapel of Saint John and even drink crystal water from the marble fountain with the lion shaped faucet. Time at your leisure for walking, shopping, taking photos of even drink a Greek made coffee to the traditional coffee and pastry shops. Then, continue for the village of Portaria. Time for walking, shopping of herbs, honey and homemade sweets and delicacies. Lunch. Afterwards, return to your hotel in Volos. Time to relax and overnight.
